I wasn’t feeling well a few weeks ago. Maybe because I was so stressed with all the things I needed to do. It felt heavy on my head and I’m having too much hair fall already. My husband suggested cutting my hair short to at least lessen the discomfort I’m feeling.

I got his point and I’ve done that before. My hair usually takes quite a time to grow. I missed having long hair (like I used to have back in college) and I’ve waited to make it this long again. But then I know I have to let go.

Surrender Your Burdens to God

There are instances in our lives wherein we have to let go of something and let God take over.

We need to let go of things that are beyond our control and entrust them to the One that is sovereign and powerful enough to handle everything.

People we can’t change. Circumstances that we can’t control. World crisis that is too much to bear.

We cannot manage all these problems.

God created us in his image and likeness but He didn’t make us exactly like Him.

He is all-powerful and all-knowing, but we are not.

The God we serve is infinite, and we are finite beings.

He gave us limitations.

Cease Striving and let God

Remember this verse in Psalm 46:10,

“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

I also love the NASB version of this verse that says “Cease striving and know that I am God.” What does cease striving mean?

He knows when we need to stop trying to change someone or a situation because it would just do us more harm than good. He wants us to TRUST Him do His work.   And what is His work that we cannot do?

To transform lives, change people’s heart, and turn a bad situation into a positive one.

It is our job to be still in the midst of all the storms in our lives. It’s His work to handle what is out of our control.

Persist on Praying

When God says to let go, it doesn’t mean that we won’t do anything anymore. In my Bible reading in the book of Isaiah, God spoke to my heart on how we should persist on praying for circumstances and other people.

In Chapter 62 verse 1, Isaiah said,

“For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet,
till her vindication shines out like the dawn,
her salvation like a blazing torch.

Isaiah hoped and desired to see the salvation of God’s people despite of their rebellion to Him. This had caused him to pray without ceasing for Israel.

Yes we let go which means we don’t try to control what we can’t, but we surrender it in prayer. We don’t just stop on not controlling it. We take the higher step of praying for it faithfully and persistently. That is something within our control.

Since we are still in the quarantine period due to a pandemic and couldn’t go to a salon, I asked my mom to give me a haircut instead. I felt better and lighter like I just literally cut the stress out of my life. Hence I realized that it’s better to feel good than to look good.

I choose to let go because our God doesn’t want us to bear all the burdens of this world.

He is saying “Do your part and leave the rest to me.”
