A lot of people are still being haunted by the pain, anger, and bitterness of what happened to them a long time ago. They want to be healed from a dark past but they don’t know how.

Here is a beautiful story of how a woman with a dark past moved on and found healing and new life in Christ.

The Story of My Dark Past

I grew up in a very religious household. My grandma whom I stayed with was known as the leader of religious activities in our place and my parents were both NPA. They were not by my side most of the time.

My childhood days were full of dark memories. I remember myself being bullied by my relatives. I often felt hungry and would just ask food from my cousins which their parents wouldn’t allow. As a student I grew up with envy because even though I did well at school, I wouldn’t get any praise unlike my cousins. I felt unappreciated.

My mom took me with them when she found out that my grandpa was asking me to do immoral things for him. I was a child back then so I didn’t understand yet the things he asked me to do. Life with my mom in the mountain was difficult. There I’ve experienced being molested by a 12 year-old boy.

When God Answered My Prayer

We had to go back to my father’s hometown when my parents were caught by the soldiers but were released immediately because of amnesty. My relatives mistreated me again. I experienced being molested once more but this time by my own father. I was 17 then.  Because of that experience with him I became a rebellious daughter. I had trust issues. I started having immoral relationships that damaged my inner self. There was a man I met who abused me emotionally and mentally. He got me pregnant with our first child but he didn’t want to take responsibility so I decided to leave him. I felt so depressed and thought lowly of myself.

One day, I prayed to God and told Him that even though I’ve lost my faith many times, I still believed that He would give me a man who will genuinely love me and stay with me forever. If not, I’ll be ready to raise my child alone forever.

healed from the past

I worked in a call center company where I met a man who is gentleman and kind. He would often invite me to church and send me Bible verses. I fell for him and soon we got married. I also realized that he was the man in my dream several years ago after I prayed and asked God for him.

My New Life in Christ

We decided to join a couples’ discipleship group in our church. My experience as a new Christian was a little bit miraculous. I still experience a lot of challenges in my new faith but I’ve seen God moved miraculously in our lives. There was a time when one of our children got sick and was confined in the hospital for a few days. My husband and I were worried and didn’t know where to get the money to pay the hospital bills.

I cried to God in prayer, acknowledging and praising Him not because of what He can do for us but because He is God and He deserves to be praised.

I asked for forgiveness and submitted completely in His power. Then I prayed for provision and peace.

Truly God answers prayers. He reminded me that there isn’t anything in this world that is bigger than Him.

After three days we got out of the hospital and God provided for us through different people. We were so amazed on how He has helped us. For when you have none, you will be given. Trust is all you need. No matter what happened to you or who you were in the past when you accept Jesus, He will give you healing, unexplainable love, acceptance, and self love. He will transform you to a new person, help you stand up again, and most importantly give you salvation. My story might be the same with others but through out my journey I found what  I long for, what I seek, what I thirst..

And that is Jesus!

Find Hope in Jesus

When you are in a point of feeling numb and wanted to be gone, there is this part of you that volunteers to surrender and acknowledge your weakness in front of God and when that happens that is the time He will pick you up, help you move forward, and gain maturity and deeper understanding of the things around you.

I even found forgiveness to the people who’ve hurt me including my family. I’m grateful for the peace I have now despite of all what I’ve been through in my life. I thank Him for giving me a heart that is healed. To God be the glory and praise forever and ever.

  2. I have also been healed from a dark past of abuse in many forms so I understand your story. At the time I didn’t see how my 15-year abusive marriage would be for my good but I have grown a deeper relationship throughout all of my hardships. God has brought a man in my life that I’m so grateful for and God knew what I needed. God is faithful and will always come to our rescue. Great post!
