5 Things a Christian Mom Desires for Her Son

A good and loving mom desires a lot of “good” things for her children: that they would finish their studies, get a good job, succeed in their careers, build a happy family, and so on.

But beyond all these seemingly wonderful future aspirations, we know that we can never control their life. And we should never do it. We can act as a guide, nurturing them with love and good values, but as they grow up they are bound to make their own decisions and take the path they want.

That’s why a Christian mom, aside from all the love actions that she can show her children and the wisdom that she can impart to them, can only surrender in prayer the future that awaits her kids.

For a mom like me who has a son, I would sometimes ponder about how my child would grow to be a man of integrity, a man of faith, and a godly leader in his future family. I’ve seen a lot of stories of men hurting others, especially women, abusing them physically, mentally, and emotionally. There are a lot of broken men out there. We cannot fix them, but with unconditional love, we can only point them to Christ, who will be the one to transform and heal them inside out.

In the first place, we never know how they were broken. Perhaps in the environment they grew up with, the culture that molded them when they were young, or the sufferings and trials they went through. Nevertheless, it’s not our job to change these people. But we have the responsibility to raise them in ways that will honor God.

I would sometimes feel the weight of raising my son for him not to be the reason for someone’s heartbreak. I would pray to God that I hope he would not cause pain to another woman the same pain I experienced in life.

Thus, as Christian moms, these are the things we hope and pray for our sons.

Here are 5 Things a Christian Mom Desires for Her Son

That he will put God first in his life.

Putting God first is the best decision that our sons will get to decide in their life. However, even with how much we try our best to lead and guide them in the word of God, their salvation will always be their personal decision. Christian moms know that when they put God first in their priorities and learn to trust Him in every area of their lives, they will experience a life of abundance in Christ. May our sons have a personal and intimate relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

That he will respect and love his parents.

In a generation where we see children going against the rules, especially against their parents, it breaks a Christian mom’s heart to see her son living a life of disrespect and unloving behavior. Any caring mom would want to relate to her child lovingly, and vice versa. That’s why we must model it to them by showing how we respect our husbands and the people around us. I believe that if we sow love in their hearts, we will reap love as well. May our sons learn to love and respect us even as we grow old.

That he will build a godly family.

Aside from the man’s role to provide for and protect his family, their god-given duty is to build a godly family. As the leader of his household, he is to nourish his family emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. The Bible states a lot of biblical responsibilities for a man. It brings joy to a Christian mom to see her son treat his wife with unconditional love and understanding. To see him training his children in the ways of the Lord. May our sons be godly leaders in their own families.

That he will be a true friend that others can lean and trust on.

Our sons will meet different kinds of people, some would be a good influence on them, and some would not. But in any situation, we desire that they will learn to stay true to a friend. True to the point of pointing out their mistakes in love by giving them godly wisdom. True to be of help to them the best way they can. A genuine friend who will share the good news of salvation. May our sons be a channel of God’s overflowing love to the people around them.

That he will make a difference in the world by using his gifts and talents in leading people to Christ.

It brings joy to a Christian mom when she sees her son utilizing all the gifts and talents that he has for the glory of God. It may be serving in the church or being involved in organizations that help the poor. Whatever it may be, his gifts come from God and He would be pleased to see His children using them to lead people to Christ.

The apostle Peter said in 1 Peter 4:10 that we are called to use our gifts to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace. May our sons live a life of purpose knowing their real identity in Christ!

A Mother’s Heart

5 Things a Christian mom desires for her son

There are many more things a Christian mom desires for her son. To my son Josh, when the time comes that you can already read and understand this post, I pray that you will take these points to heart. Know that you are always in my prayer and even as you grow to be a man who will build your own family in the future, I will still pray for you.

I love you my baby. I may not be a perfect mom, but God knows how I always try to be a better and godly mom.

This is one of my prayers for you: Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)

The Lord bless you, and keep you [protect you, sustain you, and guard you];

The Lord make His face shine upon you [with favor],
And be gracious to you [surrounding you with lovingkindness];

The Lord lift up His countenance (face) upon you [with divine approval],
And give you peace [a tranquil heart and life].’

I would forever be grateful and thankful to the Lord that I became a mom when God gave me you. Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms our there!
