“Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 (NIV)

Today marks the 7th year of my spiritual freedom in Christ! This is something I’ll forever be grateful!! Thank You Jesus for setting me free!

The Truth That Will Set You Free

What really is it to be free? Knowing the truth has a great part of it. Jesus said in John 8:31-32 that if we abide in His word, we are truly His disciples, and we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. Now what is the truth and where can we find it? In John 14:6 Jesus said that He is the way, the truth, and the light. We can find God’s truth by reading the Bible. We need to surrender our lives to Him, believe in Him, and know His word.

In October 2012, I attended a retreat facilitated by a Christian company where I previously worked. It was not very new to me because I have attended retreats before but this one definitely made a great impact in my life.  I experienced God like never before. It was where I was delivered and anointed.

What is True Freedom in Christ

I learned from a preaching in our church that true freedom is the desire and ability to do God’s will and to be all that God has designed you to be. It is the desire and ability to do good and say no to sin. How about counterfeit freedom? It is thinking you can do whatever you feel like doing without thinking of the consequences. A lot of people nowadays think that they are free. They think that they are free to do whatever they want to do as long as they are happy. After all, people will say YOLO! You only live once! So do everything you want and enjoy life. But again we must remember that all our actions have consequences that may affect our eternity.

DEVOTIONALS: The Person Who Has Wisdom : Does What Is Right

After that wonderful and life-changing experience I felt something different in me. There was an instance where I had to make a confession to my parents because that’s the only way I’ll be free from the guilt that haunted me. I was too scared to do it but indeed it is the power of God that will help us to do the right things. I hurt them with my confession. We were all broken. But thank God I was victorious.

Now a Slave of Christ!

That experience freed me from everything that imprisoned me.  I was so thankful for everyone and for everything that God used to deliver His word to me, for making me understand the truth, and for helping me embrace the freedom He has given me. Freedom in Christ is one of the best things we can ever have in life. After that painful confession to the people I love, I felt the courage and power that made me feel and realize these important things:

  • I’m an overcomer;
  • I can do anything through Christ who strengthens me,
  • No sin can enslave me as long as I hold on to the truth, and
  • If the Son sets me free, I will be free indeed! (John 8:36)

I’m not perfect and I still sin. But sin is not my master anymore. I’m now a slave of Christ, my Lord and King!
