Have you ever felt tired of waiting on God? That deep ache of delay—when prayers seem unanswered and progress feels painfully slow—can easily lead to impatience, frustration, and even doubt. This morning, I poured out my heart to God in my journal, confessing how I felt hopeless and worn out from waiting. As I sat in silence, tempted to question His promises, God reminded me—through His Word—that He is never late.
Learning from Joshua: When Waiting Seems Long
In my daily devotion, I’m currently reading through Proverbs and the book of Joshua. Today, I focused on Joshua chapters 6–12, which detail the Israelites’ conquest of Canaan. What struck me deeply was how God repeatedly told Joshua not to be afraid—because He had already delivered their enemies into their hands.
From just six chapters, it looks like they conquered so much land in a short time. But as I studied more, I discovered that the entire conquest of Canaan actually took seven years. Yes, seven long years of battles, obedience, and trust. Imagine how easy it would have been for them to grow tired of waiting for complete victory.
The Struggle of Waiting
We often want instant results—in our circumstances, relationships, and especially in overcoming personal struggles. But God is not in a hurry, even when we are. He’s more concerned with our growth than our timeline.
Waiting reveals what we truly believe. It shows us where our trust lies. I realized that I was tempted to complain and doubt simply because things weren’t moving fast enough. But God gently reminded me: He never stops working.
What to Do When You’re Tired of Waiting
If you’re in a season of waiting, here are 5 things you can do:
1. Pray Honestly
Tell God how you really feel. He already knows your heart—bring your frustrations, tears, and questions to Him. (Psalm 62:8)
2. Worship While You Wait
Shift your focus from the delay to the Deliverer. Worship refocuses your heart on God’s character and faithfulness.
3. Hold On to God’s Promises
Read His Word daily. Find scriptures that speak to your situation and declare them in faith.
4. Take the Next Faithful Step
Sometimes, God’s answer while we wait is simply: “Do the next right thing.” Be faithful in small things.
5. Talk to Someone You Trust
Don’t isolate yourself. Share your heart with a mature Christian friend or mentor who can encourage you.
